Despite supply
constraints that hindered production and, as a result, sales, Toyota was still
able to maintain its position as the top automaker in 2022. The official
figures are in, and they indicate that the Japanese manufacturer supplied
10,483,024 vehicles to clients around the world. The amount includes deliveries
made by Daihatsu subsidiaries and commercial vehicle producer Hino, and it is
down 0.1 percent from 2021.
Volkswagen Group was
well behind Toyota at the end of the year as the German automaker sold just 8.3
million vehicles in 2022, a seven percent decrease from the year before. The
Russian invasion of Ukraine produced supply difficulties, which led to VW's
poorest performance in more than a decade. Lockdowns associated with COVID-19
in China also had an impact.
